Racquet size by age
Racquet size for a 12-year-old
Full yellow ball tennis and the move toward an adult racquet. Strings and tension start to matter.
At age 12
- The jump to 27 inches is about strength as well as height: watch for a late swing or a sore arm.
- Try a 27 inch before you buy: a frame that feels heavy at the end of a lesson is too much for now.
- Now is a good time to choose a string on purpose; see our arm-friendly strings.
Note: Kids over about 58 in (148 cm) are often ready for a 27 inch adult length.
What changes at 13
From 13, most players use a 27 inch adult racquet; choose weight and grip size with a coach.
